EVERYTHING YOU NEED to KNOW
Prior to Camp OMNIA each year St. Andrew’s United Church, hosts a one-day ecumenical leadership training session designed to prepare TEAM LEADERS to confidently lead their group of 5 campers during Camp OMNIA. This training day is known as OMNIA Orientation. A name that is unique, meaningful, intriguing and deeply spiritual.
WHAT'S in a NAME?
In Latin, OMNIA is the plural form of omnis, which translates directly to "all things" or "everything." Since this leadership training is designed to bring together youth from various denominations (which is what ecumenical means), the name works perfectly on several different levels:
● Radical Inclusivity and UnityEcumenical movements focus on finding common ground and fostering unity among different faith traditions (Anglican, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Protestant etc.). Naming a camp "Everything" or "All Things" serves as a powerful reminder that everyone is welcome. It signals a space where denominational walls are broken down to create one singular community of faith.
● A Nod to "All Things" in the ScriptureThe word OMNIA appears in many well-known Latin translations of The New Testament,. One verse aligns perfectly with OMNIA’s Guiding Principles:
1 Corinthians 13:7: Describes love (caritas) as a force that "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
● A Focus on the Bigger PictureFinally, the name OMNIA intentionally shifts the focus away from divisiveness and focuses instead on the grand scale of creation and the importance of community. It tells Team Leaders that their faith isn't just about where they worship (Church, Mosque, Synagogue) or on what day.
Rather it encompasses “all things” in their lives including friendship, nature, fun, growth, and worship.

Fun Fact: The root word omnis is also where we get terms like omnipresent (God is everywhere) and omnipotent (God is all-powerful). So, hidden right inside the camp's name is a subtle nod to our creator!
THE OMNIA ORIENTATION EXPERIENCE
OMNIA Orientation is designed to provide Team Leaders with leadership skills and practical tools that will assist them in positively engaging with and leading five campers ranging in age from 4-12 years.
During orientation Team Leaders spend the morning in team building and leadership activities. In the afternoon they learn how to prepare their team to confidently carry out the mission of the camp’s culminating activity on the final day of camp.
OMNIA Orientation is a purpose driven experience. Team Leaders try new things, learn new skills, make new friends and work toward a common purpose and understanding of their role in preparing their team for the camp’s culminating activity.
